Small Drinks Cabinet and Mini Drinks Cabinet: Clever Solutions for Small Spaces

A small drinks cabinet can be the perfect solution if you want to create a bar corner at home without taking up too much space. In smaller flats, or in rooms where the furnishings are already dense, a compact drinks cabinet adds function and character without dominating the room.

That is exactly why small drinks cabinets have become more and more popular. They serve both as practical storage for bottles and glasses and as a striking piece of design furniture that gives the room personality.

How do you furnish small spaces?

When Does a Small Drinks Cabinet Fit?

A smaller drinks cabinet suits homes where space is limited but you still want a permanent place for drinks and glasses.

  • In smaller living rooms or flats
  • As an occasional piece beside the seating area
  • In the dining room, where a larger drinks cabinet would not fit
  • As a decorative piece in the hallway or passage

The compact size also makes the piece easy to place and to move around when needed.

Corner Drinks Cabinets and Wall-Hugging Drinks Cabinets

When space is tight, a corner cabinet or a narrower drinks cabinet can be a clever alternative. Pieces like these use areas that would otherwise often stay empty, and therefore work very well in smaller homes.

Some drinks cabinets are also made to stand close to the wall or to serve as a narrower display cabinet in which glasses and bottles are elegantly presented.

Small Drinks Cabinets With Great Design Character

Despite its size, a smaller drinks cabinet can have a strong visual presence. Much older furniture from the middle of the 20th century has proportions and details that work superbly in more modern settings too.

Through redesign, such pieces are given a new look while the original construction is retained. That is why redesigned furniture often works so well in smaller rooms: it combines classic quality with a modern presence.

Small Piece, Big Function

A small drinks cabinet does not have to serve only as a bar. Many people also use the piece as a smaller display cabinet or as decorative storage in the living room.

You will find examples of drinks cabinets in various sizes in our current range: Drinks cabinets and display cabinets.

Whatever its size, the drinks cabinet combines function, design and sociability, even in smaller rooms.

Mini Drinks Cabinet: How Much Fits Into 60 Centimetres

A mini drinks cabinet 55 to 65 cm wide holds more than you might think if the interior is right. A typical layout: one tall compartment of 34 cm for six to eight bottles, one shelf for eight to ten glasses in glass holders, and a pull-out shelf or flap as a work surface. A mirrored back makes the small cabinet look larger, and an LED strip above the bottles creates the bar effect that would otherwise require a cabinet twice the size. A small cabinet on legs, 30 to 40 cm deep, needs less floor space than a bedside table. What applies to dimensions and interiors in general is set out in the drinks cabinet guide.

Cabinet With a Mini Bar: The Alternative When a Drinks Cabinet Will Not Fit

If there is no room for a piece of its own, the bar can disappear into something you already have. A display cabinet with a closed lower cupboard offers the bar below and the glasses above. A chest of drawers with a deep top drawer takes bottles lying down. A sideboard with a bar compartment behind one of the doors is the most common solution in smaller flats. We are happy to rebuild the interior of an existing cabinet with a mirror, glass holders and lighting, so that it becomes a real bar on the inside without being a drinks cabinet on the outside.

Narrow or Wall-Mounted Drinks Cabinet

A narrow drinks cabinet 40 to 50 cm wide and full height, 150 to 180 cm, works in hallways and alcoves where nothing else would fit. Wall-mounted drinks cabinets with a flap, popular in the 1950s, need no floor space at all: a picture when closed, a bar when open. Both variants are rare as originals, but can be converted from narrow cabinets or bureaux. Ask us if you have a spot that is hard to furnish.

Frequently Asked Questions About Small Drinks Cabinets

How small can a drinks cabinet be and still work?

Around 55 cm wide, 35 cm deep and 110 cm high is the limit for a cabinet with bottles, glasses and a work surface. Below that, it becomes a spirits cabinet without a bar.

Does a small drinks cabinet fit in the bedroom?

Yes, it is the classic hotel solution. Choose a cabinet with a closed door so that the bottles are not visible, and do without lighting that shines out into the room.

Does a small drinks cabinet need cooling?

No. Spirits are stored at room temperature. You fetch ice and mixers from the kitchen. A built-in refrigerator makes the piece heavy, warm and noisy.
